Background
The Fv714 between Dolmøya on Hitra and Frøya runs 5.3 kilometres under the Frøyfjord in Trøndelag. It is the last part of the fixed link that connected Hitra and Frøya to the mainland.
The tunnel opened on 23 June 2000, six years after the Hitra tunnel, and replaced the ferry across the Frøyfjord. It reaches 164 metres below sea level, and with a steepest gradient of 10 percent it is among the steepest undersea tunnels in Norway.
Frøya has no other way out, so a closure cuts the whole island off from the outside world. Check the status before setting out, especially in winter.
